Crossbows
A crossbow is a weapon that has played a significant role in the warfare in Eastern Asia, as well as Europe and the Mediterranean. The medieval crossbow was called by many names derived from the word ballista, such as bolts or quarrels, a bow mounted on a stock that shoots projectiles.
There are different variants of the crossbow. One way to classify them is the acceleration system, while another is the size and energy, and also the degree of automation or projectiles.
Crossbows are used for shooting sport and bow hunting in modern archery. Today, the crossbow often has a complicated legal status due to the possibility of lethal use and its similarities with both firearms and archery weapons. Within the United States, regulations vary by state. Hunting is allowed in many states with only a few states still limiting their use to people with physical limitations.
